ITINERARY

  • August 2014 - 3 days @ Astha's

  • February 2019 - 5 days at Marina Bay Sands, courtesy of Vannie for the free hook ups!

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Food food food! List generated by my Singaporean classmates (haven’t gone through it yet)

  • Eating really good food at a hawker stall (food plaza at the bottom of corporate buildings). Things to try

    • Chili crab, laska, oyster omelette, beef satay

    • Hainan chicken rice (so delicious it deserves a line of its own)

  • Going bar hopping at different quays. First place I ever had a margarita with beer was here.

  • Drinking the Singapore Sling at it founding place-- The Long Bar.

  • Touring international high schools by wonderful host and subject matter expert, Astha Argawal.

  • Seeing killer rooftop views at Marina Bay Sands. If you aren’t one of the elite to get to swim in the pool, head to the bar for killer views and an expensive drink.

  • Walking through Gardens by the Bay at midnight. Nothing beats the smell of flowers on a beautiful summer night. (Make sure to catch the SuperTree Grove!) This easily has become one of my favorite places in the world.

  • Catching mile high views at Singapore Flyer. One of the best ways to see Singapore in a unique observation deck.

  • Shopping along Orchard Row. Though, not much I could afford there.

  • Grocery shopping at Little India Singapore. Great place to buy trinkets for friends at a discount.

  • Receiving amazing hospitality and warmth from Astha and her family.

  • Ease of transportation. We had a private driver, which was (and is always) awesome. Car ownership is low, per capita car ownership is 12 cars per 100 people, and a license can be revoked with multiple tickets. This allows for less traffic, and safer driving on the road. (Also be on alert, taxi's are monitored by the government so make sure you never complain about SG in a taxi!)

Lowlights

  • Excruciating weather. Heat mixed with humidity makes for a difficult time. Make sure to drink lots of water!
