Punta del Este, muy cheto! It’s where everyone in South America goes to vacation when they are craving the beach. I even heard that the town was made after Miami. It definitely is very cute and picturesque, but also very expensive (even as someone who lived in San Francisco). I came here for a work summit, and it got a lot of raves from my coworkers, but I honestly… wasn’t that impressed.

Punta del Este was one of those places I found myself during my work assignment that I never thought I’d end up in, but was a nice opportunity to get to visit for a few days. I would not recommend Punta del Este as a visit for my US friends, but for those in South America craving the beach… maybe Rio would be better?

ITINERARY

  • February 2019 - 4 Days

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Casa Pueblo was fantastic. Hotel built from whitewashed stucco and cement. Beautiful to catch at sunset, with an amazing yard/patio area right next to the water.

  • Fish Market was delicious. Love me some grilled octopus.

  • Watching Fran and friends parasailing! Never knew it was such a big sport here, but cool to see.

  • Beaches galore. So many beaches to explore! Though.. I will say the beaches isn’t as nice as others I’ve been to. Gracie and I had a great day just at the beach relaxing in the sand.

  • Wine tasting. Uruguay had some wonderful wineries, and it was wonderful getting to do wine tasting.

  • Spending quality time with Arg/Urg Team. It was truly wonderful getting to see everyone and know them better. Really value Offsites for this reason to get outside the office and connect on a deeper level.

lowlights

  • Pricey. Paying SF prices in SA just didn’t feel right.

  • Rain rain go away. We went right after high season in February but it was raining so much, really made it hard to enjoy a lot of beach activities.

  • Not being able to swim with the sea lions! All I wanted to do was to swim with the sea lions in Isle Los Lobos but alas, the rain blocked this dream from coming true.
