ITINERARY

  • August 2016 - 3 days @ Bounce Hostel (all female hostel that as very safe and clean but little interactions with people outside our room, and hardly any programming! Wouldn’t recommend staying here if given the option.)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Watching Janet give the owner of a KBBQ a shot of soju. And then immediately watch him run away right after.

  • Drinking flavored soju! So many different flavors (grape, peach, yogurt) etc.

  • Figuring that almost all major department stores have people who speak Chinese. Once again, 8 years of Chinese School has paid off.

  • Spending 7 hour Korean Sauna with 12 different types of rooms (including a heated room, air room, sleeping room, etc) and getting my whole face threaded.

  • Seeing Liz Chiang for dinner as she settles in to teach English in Seoul.

  • Eating patbingsu on a hot summer night. Ice ice baby, beautifully made shaved ice cut with condensed mik.

  • Buying k-beauty products. I love Tony Moly peach hand cream, Nexcare pimple patches, and face masks galore (check out snail bee).

  • Walking around Dongdaemun Design Plaza at night. Beautiful seeing the plaza lit up, and they sell cool unique items in the plaza.

Lowlights

  • Experiencing strong language barrier at restaurants. Hard to order food, especially at mom & pop restaurants-- I need to come back with a native speaker!

  • Sweating in hot weather. A bi-product of spending the summer in Asia.

  • Staying in a meh hostel. It was clean and very safe, but did not have much programing.
